With financial support from the Initiative for What Works to Advance Women and Girls in the Economy (IWWAGE) and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and technical Support from KUDUMBASHREE, PCI India is implementing a project called SWAYAM in India. SWAYAM focuses on designing and testing a gender-transformative model within the Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM) for gender integration in SRLM programming. SWAYAM started in July 2019 in two district, 4 blocks and 8 Gram panchayats (GP). The project aims to address gender disparities by focusing on a) Security and freedom from discrimination, atrocities, and violence against women b) Ensuring women’s access to their social protection, rights, and entitlements c) Strengthening the identity of women and community-based institutions d) Creating Institutions of Women for Sustaining Change. The project has shown huge potentials to thansform the current status of women in the state and has been scaled up recently to 20 districts, 54 blocks and 61 GPs.
